New Orleans Fundraiser A Huge Success
The Big Easy Scores a TKO for TOKC
The Triumph Over Kid Cancer Foundation, held its first fundraiser in New Orleans to help fund Research on Pediatric Bone Cancer on Sunday, November 14, 2010, at Mike’s On The Avenue. It was a huge success, raising over 100,000 dollars for research into curing a cancer that has seen no significant change in treatment or survivor rates over the last 30 years. It was such a success thanks to old friends like John and Michelle Hennessey, Kathy Wiedorn, Tommy Moies, and Marlene Rodriguez, as well as donations and personal support from socially conscious companies like Valero. We also had unexpected and overwhelming support from new friends like Mr. Lenny Minutillo. “I can’t begin to tell you how incredible this outpouring of support is. My Mom was raised here in New Orleans, so I have always been a New Orleanean at heart,” said James Ragan, a high school senior. “I saw the character of New Orleans and its residents while they stood against Katrina and then rebuilt the city. It is truly a place that knows how to work together to get an important job done, and I and all my friends who are suffering with pediatric bone cancer, appreciate the fact that they came out to help us.” All proceeds from the events will benefit M.D. Anderson Pediatric Oncology Research and The Sunshine Kids Foundation that helps pediatric cancer patients. Also, for each research dollar raised M.D. Anderson will MATCH the donations DOLLAR for DOLLAR and use all of the money for Pediatric Bone Cancer Research. The event was also endless fun with rockin’ music, great food and wild dancing, thus carrying on the traditions of our original theme – “Fighting Cancer One Toga Party at a Time Since 2006!”
Let’s continue to work together to Triumph Over Kid Cancer!!
